On Thursday morning, United Way North East Ontario and 669 Heat in Sudbury announced the winner of its Winter Warmth Furnace Giveaway Contest.
Guy Jodouin, his fiancé Stephanie Bergeron and their three girls are winners of a Lennox high-efficiency furnace that’s being donated by the company 669 Heat.
“It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders, that’s for sure,” said Jodouin.
“It’s a big expense I don’t need to worry about. It had to be replaced for sure and I had an uncle that would maintain it, which saved me a lot of money but yeah, the old one was definitely due to get changed. That’s for sure.”
Staff with United Way said there were 23 nominations and it was difficult to narrow it down.
“But in the end, Guy had two nominations, they were both very compelling and he needed a win and he got the win,” said Laura Beaudoin with United Way North East Ontario.
“We know that in Sudbury there’s so many deserving families and there were so many good entries … If we could give a furnace to everybody that would be ideal, but in the end we had to make one decision.”
The prize is valued at between $5,000 and $7,000 and will be installed next week.
“It always feels good to help give back in the community because we were pretty visible in the community and when there’s people in need we want to help out,” said Steve Murphy with 669 Heat.
“Our work comes with a one-year workmanship warranty and the product has a warranty on it also … So we’re here for him to help him in need of anything in the future.”
United way and 669 Heat are hoping to do another giveaway again next winter.
