A 43-year-old from Goulais River, Ont., faces multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police discovered they were driving without a valid licence during a traffic stop.

On April 5 at about 12:52 p.m., an OPP officer patrolling Great Northern Road in Sault Ste. Marie was alerted by their cruiser’s automated licence plate recognition system that the vehicle’s registered owner had an expired licence.

A traffic stop was initiated and further investigation revealed additional violations under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a licence, driving without a validated permit, and failing to provide proof of insurance.

Keep documents up-to-date

The OPP reminded motorists to ensure their driving documents are up-to-date and stored securely in their vehicles.

“Expired or missing documents may result in charges under the HTA,” police said.

OPP cruiser Ontario Provincial Police say a Sudbury driver has been charged with dangerous driving and is a suspect in other incidents following his arrest March 3 near Toronto. (File)
