21-year-old charged after striking traffic light while impaired in Orléans

Ottawa police have charged a driver who hit a traffic light and allegedly fled from the scene in Orléans early Sunday morning.

Police say a vehicle struck a traffic light at the intersection of Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard and Innes Road just before 5 a.m.

The vehicle fled the area and a witness called 911, according to police.

Officers located the vehicle a distance away from the scene and safely stopped the driver.

The 21-year-old driver was arrested on charges of failing to remain and impaired driving.

Lane closures are in effect at southbound Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard and Innes Road because of the collision.

Officers are on scene directing traffic as crews work to repair the traffic light.
