A dog owner is facing charges, and the City of Ottawa is seeking to have the animal put down after a woman and her dog were attacked last week in Constance Bay, according to Bylaw and Regulatory Services (BLRS).

An investigation was launched after a woman said she and her dog were attacked while out for a walk on MacMillan Lane on April 28.

“After obtaining a warrant, Bylaw and Regulatory Services (BLRS) has seized the dog involved in a serious attack in Constance Bay last week that resulted in significant injuries to a woman and her dog,” Roger Chapman, Director of Bylaw and Regulatory Services, said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa.”

“Multiple charges have been issued by way of a Court Summons to the dog’s owner. Through the courts, BLRS is also seeking a court order for the destruction of the dog involved in the incident.”

Bylaw Services did not identify the breed of the dog, but the victim said it was a pit bull.

Tracey Briscoe told CTV News Ottawa she was out for a walk with her 12-year-old dog Mic and two friends when she said a pit bull started running towards them from a nearby house. Briscoe said she scooped her dog up and then the dog lunged at her and bit into her arm.

“I had to make that decision that this dog will take me down if I don’t release my dog and get it off of me,” Bricoe said on May 3. “So, I did that and as soon as I did that, he released his grip on me and attacked my dog and he shook him like a ragdoll and then he pinned him.”

She said witnesses punched the dog, which then released its grip on Mic.

Briscoe said she suffered serious injuries to her arm from the attack. Mic had emergency surgery after the incident.
