Captains of Ottawa Rapid FC ‘excited to starting a new league’

Published:

CTV Morning Live exclusively revealed the team's captains this morning!

The Ottawa Rapids FC kicks off on April 27, bringing pro-women soccer to Canada and CTV Morning Live hosts its captains.

“It’s a privilege of course. We’re super excited to starting a new league,” co-captain Susanne Haaland said.

Co-captain Olivia Scott adds that everyone’s “got super high energy levels.”

“What’s beautiful about this is that pathway from grassroots all the way up to the pros,” Desiree Scott, Ottawa Rapid FC co-captain.

All three captains are expecting the crowd to be “quite high” at TD place.

“I must say I have quite high expectations. I’m coming all the way from Norway,” Haaland said. “I’ve heard that Canada is a country that loves sports, so my expectation is that a lot of people will show up.”

The Ottawa Rapid FC’s season kicks off at TD Place Stadium at 1 p.m. April 27 against AFC Toronto. The team will play 25 matches, with 10 Saturday games and five Sunday games. Thirteen matches will be played at home at TD Place.

Ottawa will not have any home games between June 21 and July 25 during the international break.

The Ottawa Rapid FC is part of the new Northern Super League (NSL), which consists of six clubs: Ottawa Rapid FC, Vancouver Rise FC, Calgary Wild FC, Montreal Roses FC, AFC Toronto and Halifax Tides FC. Ottawa will face the other teams five times each over the course of the regular season. At the end of the regular season, the top four clubs will qualify for the NSL Playoffs, and the two semifinal winners will advance to the NSL Championship.

Games will also be broadcast on multiple platforms, with nine Ottawa Rapid FC games on TSN and two on the CBC.
