City of Pembroke expects full water service by Saturday after water main break

The City of Pembroke says residents affected by a major water main break in late November should have full water service restored by Saturday.

The water main broke on Nov. 21, prompting the city to ask residents in Pembroke and Laurentian Valley to conserve water while repairs were underway.

In an update, the city said extra repair work extended the timeline for a fix, but the hole at the break area is now expected to be filled Wednesday and the city will fill the line with water.

The water will be tested, with results expected by Friday.

“On Saturday, the city will open all the valves and disconnect the temporary service at Miramichi Lodge and put the home back on full service,” the city said in a news release. “As of Saturday evening, we expect all system users to be back on full, normal operations.”

In the meantime, the city continues to ask residents to conserve water whenever possible, such as by having short showers or running fewer loads of laundry.

The water remains safe to consume.
