Ontario Provincial Police say the driver of a coach bus was given a ticket Tuesday night after a near miss on Highway 416.

An officer had pulled a driver over at around 11:30 p.m. when the bus passed very close by, police said.

Police then stopped the bus and issued a $490 ticket to the bus driver for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.

“Moving over for vehicles on the side of the highway should be a common courtesy afforded to all drivers and is the law when it comes to emergency vehicles and tow trucks,” the OPP said in a post on X.

A first offence for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle can result in a fine between $400 and $2,000, three demerit points if convicted, and a possible driver’s licence suspension. Subsequent offences can lead to up to six months jail time.
