Two people are facing charges after a pick-up truck allegedly side-swiped a car in an apparent road-rage incident on Highway 401 in Kingston on Friday.
Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to an incident involving two vehicles travelling eastbound on the highway at approximately 7:30 a.m.
According to police, a car was trying to overtake a tractor trailer on a two-lane portion of the highway west of Gardiners Road. A pick-up truck was “pressing” the car to clear the lane, which “had both drivers brake checking and tailgating dangerously.”
The pick-up truck then used the left shoulder to overtake the car, causing a side-swipe collision.
Both vehicles were able to continue driving until the car pulled over and the driver called police.
“The driver of the pick-up truck did not stop or provide their information, as required, for a collision,” OPP said in a news release.
The driver of the car, a 61-year-old man from Camden East, was charged with unsafe move lane or shoulder.
A 57-year-old from Odessa, who was driving the pick-up truck, was charged with fail to remain at the scene of a collision and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
The damage to both vehicles totaled more than $5,000, according to police.
