A man in his 40s is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 174 in Ottawa’s east end.

Emergency crews responded to a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer on Hwy. 174, between Canaan Road and Old Montreal Road, at approximately 9:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The Ottawa Police Service said the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of the incident. You can contact the Fatal Collision Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2345.

Orléans MPP Stephen Blais is calling on the Ontario government to divide the highway and install High Occupancy Vehicle and transit lanes on Highway 174.

“This tragic accident is all too common on the two-lane section of Hwy. 174,” Blais said. “This is why dividing the highway and adding HOV/Transit lanes must continue to be a priority in Ottawa.”
