FIFA World Cup: Here’s what you need to know about watch parties, extended last call at Ottawa bars, restaurants

The FIFA World Cup kicks off on Thursday, with 104 matches at venues in Canada, the United States and Mexico over the next month.

While games will be played in Toronto and Vancouver, World Cup fever will still grip Ottawa.

The Ontario government has extended the last call until 4 a.m. at bars and restaurants, while several establishments will be broadcasting all games.

Here’s what you need to know about the FIFA World Cup in Ottawa.

Extended Last Call

The Ontario government is extending last call at licensed bars and restaurants in Ottawa and across Ontario during the FIFA World Cup.

The province says, as part of a plan to support tourism and local businesses, alcohol sales are permitted until 4 a.m. at bars and restaurants.

The extended last call runs until July 19.

LCBO

The LCBO is extending store hours at select retail stores in Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area until July 19 due to the World Cup.

The extended hours are Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The three LCBO outlets in Ottawa with extended store hours are:

• LCBO at Rideau and King Edward
• LCBO at 120 Riocan Avenue in Barrhaven
• LCBO at 42220 Innes Road in Orléans

Cineplex

You can watch FIFA World Cup matches on the big screen.

Select Cineplex cinemas in Ottawa will be showing FIFA World Cup games with TSN.

FIFA Watch Parties

Several establishments in Ottawa will be showing World Cup games during the tournament. Visit each bar and restaurant’s website and social media channels for information.

Splitsville Bowl in Kanata is hosting social events on match days.

The Glebe Central Pub will broadcast every match at the World Cup. The Glebe Central Pub will host viewing parties during England’s games.

The Heart and Crown in the ByWard Market is hosting a Footy kick off party for Canada’s game on June 12.

Ottawa’s Bosnian community is hosting an event at the Jolly Taxpayer in Barrhaven for the Bosnia and Herzegovina game against Canada.

Haiti’s game against Scotland on June 13 will be shown at the Skate and Player roller rink. The Ottawa Haitian Hub is hosting a watch party for Haiti’s June 19 game at the Senate Tavern on Clarence Street.

The Ottawa-Gatineau Brazilian community will gather at Pubwells on Sussex for Brazil’s game against Morocco on Saturday.

Local Heroes Bar and Grill is the official home to watch the Netherlands at the World Cup.

The Germany Embassy is hosting an event for Germany’s game on June 20 at Braumeister Brewing Co.
