A G2 driver is facing a stunt driving charge for the third time in less than a year.

Ontario Provincial Police says an officer observed a driver going 153 km/h on Highway 416 last weekend.

Police say the same officer stopped the driver for speeding 159 km/h on Highway 416 last June. The driver was also stopped speeding 167 km/h on Highway 417 in May 2024.

“If convicted of all three charges, this driver faces a minimum 10-year driving prohibition, with the potential for a lifetime driving ban as well as a $10,000 fine,” OPP Const. Michael Fathi said. “A jail term of up to six months is also possible. In the meantime, this driver has once again lost their licence for 30 days and had their vehicle impounded for 14 days.”

G1 driver facing several charges

Ontario Provincial Police say a G1 driver is facing “numerous charges” after being stopped on Highway 417 last weekend.

Police say the Automated Licence Plate Recognition system notified an officer that the registered owner of the vehicle stopped on April 7 was a suspended driver.

“The driver was the registered owner and already had a suspended G1 licence for prior G1 violations. The vehicle was also uninsured,” Fathi said. “The driver was issued multiple charges for Novice driver violations, driving under suspension and operating a vehicle without insurance. Their vehicle was impounded for seven days.”

Ontario Provincial Police have been targeting licence plate violations on roads in the Ottawa area.

During a one-week blitz last week, police issued 278 tickets for licence plate violations and 222 warnings.

Police say also issued 1,148 Provincial Offences Act tickets during the stops, including for being an uninsured driver and an impaired driver.
