A Gatineau man is facing multiple charges for hateful threats he allegedly made over social media.
Gatineau police conducted a search of a home on Wigwàs Street, in the city’s Hull sector on the morning of Feb. 25 following a tip from the public regarding the suspect’s social media activities, according to a news release in French.
During the search, police arrested a 32-year-old Gatineau man on several charges, including advocating genocide, inciting hatred and transmitting threats to cause bodily harm to users of a social media platform.
Police also seized several weapons and other items, including a cellphone, tablet and computer equipment; a sling; a homemade bayonet; bow, arrows and quivers; a crossbow and arrows; bear repellent; two air guns; one pellet revolver; two air rifles; and an air submachine gun.
The man appeared in a Gatineau courthouse on Feb. 26.
