It will cost you more to fill up the gas tank for an Easter weekend road trip, as refineries switch over to the summer blend gas.
Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague says gas prices will increase 5 cents a litre in Ottawa and across most of Ontario on Friday.
The average cost of gasoline in Ottawa will be 126.9 cents a litre on Friday, according to McTeague.
Refineries switch to summer-blend gasoline in mid-April, which is more expensive than the winter blend. Refineries are mandated to switch back to the winter-grade fuel in mid-September.
Gas prices dropped in Ottawa and across Ontario on April 1 as the federal government reduced the carbon pricing for consumers. Stations were no longer required to collect the 19.9-cent carbon tax on gasoline or the 24.2-cent tax on diesel.
The price of gas has also dropped due to the energy markets reacting to the U.S. tariff war.
Gas was selling in Ottawa for an average of $1.55 a litre on March 31.
