It’s the coldest April 9 in Ottawa history

The calendar says it’s spring, but it continues to look and feel like winter in Ottawa with record cold temperatures and snow on the ground.

It was -13.4 C at 6 a.m., the coldest temperature recorded in Ottawa on April 9. The previous record was -11.3 C, set in 1997.

Environment Canada’s forecast calls for a mix of sun and clouds today with a 40 per cent chance of afternoon flurries. High 2 C.

Partly cloudy this evening with a 40 per cent chance of flurries then clearing overnight. Low -8 C.

Mainly sunny on Thursday with increasing cloudiness in the afternoon. High 6 C.

Friday will be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers. High 6 C.

The outlook for Saturday calls for mainly cloudy and a high of 7 C.

Sunday will see a mix of sun and cloud. High 12 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 10 C and a low of 0 C.

Snow cleanup

The cleanup continues after Ottawa received 15 cm of snow Monday night and Tuesday.

The City of Ottawa says its crews are focusing on clearing and treating sidewalks, priority roads, bus routes, the Transitway and the winter cycling network as required.

Officials add residential roads will be monitored, “and snow and ice conditions will be treated as needed.”
