Man facing charges in homicide at Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre

A 44-year-old Ottawa man is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection to a homicide involving an inmate at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.

The Ottawa Police Service says a man was assaulted at the detention facility on Innes Road on Feb. 6.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Amr Zohair of Ottawa, died from his injuries on Feb. 9.

Police say Marc LeBrun-Fortin was originally charged with aggravated assault. He is now facing a charge of first-degree murder.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate.

Police said both the accused and the victim were inmates at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.
