OPP investigating homicide in Calabogie, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police have determined that a woman who was found dead in the Calabogie area was the victim of a homicide.

A person was found dead on Lanark Road in Greater Madawaska Township at around 6 p.m. on May 6, police said. The victim has been identified as Geraldine Fulcher, 61, of Calabogie, Ont.

“Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident, with no indication of a broader threat,” police said in a news release on Friday.

“The OPP is aware of community concerns and wants to reassure residents that this matter is being taken seriously. Police continue to actively monitor the situation, and an increased presence in the area can be expected as the investigation remains ongoing.”

The OPP said an autopsy determined that Fulcher was the victim of a homicide, but no details about how she died were released.

“The OPP asks that the public refrain from sharing unconfirmed information, which can cause additional harm to the victim’s family and may interfere with the integrity of the investigation,” police said. “We recognize the public’s interest and encourage individuals to rely on information from official, verified sources.”
