Ottawa firefighters were quick to extinguish a large basement fire that was spreading to nearby homes in Orléans on Monday morning. The Ottawa Fire Services says it received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire at a large single-family home in the 600 block of Decoeur Drive shortly after 10:40 a.m. According to the callers, flames were seen coming from the basement of a home and spreading out of its sides to neighbouring houses. On arrival, firefighters quickly attacked the flames by bringing a hose line through the home. A search of the home found no one trapped inside. “The fire had travelled from the basement into the side wall of the home. Firefighters used chainsaws to open the wall, expose hidden hot spots and extinguish them,” Ottawa Fire Services said in a social media post. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control about half an hour after the initial 911 calls and were able to prevent the flames from damaging other homes. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
