Police are investigating a fire that damaged a magic mushroom shop in downtown Ottawa early Saturday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services says in a news release that multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a fire coming from a storefront in the 100-200 block of Rideau St. at about 5:55 a.m.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire visible from the multi-storey commercial building with a Shroomyz location.
Additional resources were called to the scene and firefighters began to search the structure for anyone inside. Two full searches of the building found no occupants.
The fire was contained to the area of origin before it could spread and declared under control at 6:07 a.m.
An Ottawa paramedics spokesperson says no one was injured.
Firefighters used high-pressurized fans to ventilate the smoke out of the structure.
Police cruisers and officers remain at the scene as of Sunday afternoon to investigate the fire.
In an update on Sunday, police say the incident is being treated as a crime scene but did not provide further details.
No arrests or charges have been laid.
