Published:

Firefighters rescued a resident from a burning home in Ottawa’s south end on Monday afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Services say they received a 911 call reporting a fire coming from the basement of a single-family home in the 1200 block of St. Paul Avenue, near Bank Street, shortly after 3:45 p.m.

Crews on site found smoke coming from the basement and requested additional resources to the scene, according to an Ottawa fire news release.

Firefighters began searching the home for occupants and rescued a resident shortly before 4 p.m.

Ottawa paramedics say one adult was transported to hospital in stable condition. Their injuries were not disclosed.

The fire was declared under control at 4:03 p.m.

Ottawa Victim Services were dispatched to the scene to help residents displaced by the fire.

It comes after two tragic house fires in Ottawa and eastern Ontario last weekend.

A 73-year-old man died after a house fire shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday in East Hawkesbury.

An elderly resident was also found dead after a fire at a single-family home in Ottawa’s Barrhaven neighbourhood on Saturday afternoon. Multiple firefighters sustained minor injuries.

The fires remain under investigation.
