Ottawa firefighters were quick to extinguish a fire inside a three-storey apartment building in the city’s downtown core Monday afternoon.
Ottawa Fire Services say crews responded to the 300 block of Cooper Street near Bank Street at about 3:07 p.m. after a 911 caller reported smoke in a hallway.
On arrival, firefighters found heavy black smoke inside a unit and additional resources were called to the scene. A hose line had to be advanced inside the building, Ottawa fire said in a news release.
A heavy presence of emergency vehicles was seen along Bank Street, impacting afternoon traffic.
Ottawa paramedics responded to the scene, but there were no injuries.
The fire was declared under control at 3:18 p.m. and was controlled to the area of origin before it could spread.
High-pressurized fans were used to clear the heavy smoke from the building.
An Ottawa fire investigator was sent to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
