Ottawa police seek to identify suspect in ByWard Market assault

Ottawa police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of assaulting someone in the ByWard Market last December.

It happened in the “early morning hours” of Dec. 7, 2024, on the 1-100 block of Clarence Street, between Sussex Drive and Dalhousie Street.

According to police, the suspect approached the victim said a few words and attacked the person before running away. The victim’s injuries were considered minor.

Police described the suspect as a Middle Eastern man, approximately 20 to 25 years old, around 5-foot-9 (175 cm) with a heavy build and facial hair. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing a yellow track suit, black and yellow ball cap and black and red shoes. Photos provided by police show a pale-skinned man with a dark-coloured chinstrap beard.
