Ottawa’s French public school board, the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’est de l’Ontario (CEPEO), has announced the name of its newest school.
The school will be named École élémentaire publique Des Visionnaires, which means “the visionaries” in French. It will be the 45th school in the school board.
“The name reflects a school that is resolutely facing the future, anchored in the community, and engaged in forming responsible and innovative citizens,” the CEPEO said in a news release in French. “It prioritizes the importance of learning connected with local and international realities and emphasizes the links between the classroom and the outside world.”
The school will be situated at 110 Robin Easey Ave., in the Half Moon Bay area of Barrhaven. The CEPEO says it will open at the start of the 2025-2026 school year and serve 475 students from kindergarten through Grade 6. It will also have a daycare with spaces for 10 babies, 15 toddlers, and 24 preschoolers, the board says.
The CEPEO has 18,000 students and is the largest francophone public school board in Canada outside of Quebec.
