Ottawa Fire Services says a man was extricated this morning after becoming trapped underneath a vehicle following a collision on Laurier Avenue near the University of Ottawa.
The man is in his 20s. Police say he was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.
The Ottawa Police Service says officers received a call around 6:45 a.m., reporting “a collision involving a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle” at the intersection of Laurier Avenue East and Cumberland Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man pinned and trapped under a vehicle. That was when they asked Ottawa fire for help.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found that the man was stuck under a “pickup truck with their arm entangled into the axle.”

“Our Heavy Rescue vehicle from Station 12 on O’Connor Street was dispatched to the scene,” Ottawa fire said in a post on X.
Crews then stabilized the vehicle and started the extrication process, which required the use of lift bags and a jack to raise the vehicle up and remove a rear tire.

The trapped arm was removed from the axle, and the resident was safely extricated from underneath the truck at 7:21 a.m.
The Ottawa paramedic Service says an adult man was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The Ottawa Police Service asked people to avoid the area during the investigation, citing road closures between Cumberland Street and The Transitway intersection.
The roads have since been reopened.
Ottawa police are asking people who might have witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage to come forward.
