Dozens of police officers were caught by Ottawa’s red light and photo radar cameras over the winter.

A report for the Ottawa Police Services Board shows 69 tickets through the automated speed enforcement camera program and 23 tickets for red light camera violations were issued to officers in the January to March period.

An internal complaint is launched when a photo radar camera or red-light camera infraction is issued to an Ottawa Police Service vehicle.

The officer is responsible for paying the fine if warranted, according to the service.

The 69 tickets issued for photo radar camera infractions in the first three months of 2025 was down from the 75 tickets issued to officers in the January-March period in 2024.

Police officers received 570 tickets through the automated speed enforcement camera program in 2024 and 197 tickets in 2023.

The number of red-light camera infractions issued to officers increased from 12 in 2024 to 23 in 2025. A total of 100 tickets were issued to police for red light camera violations in 2024.

OC Transpo tickets

Thirteen OC Transpo drivers were caught speeding by photo radar cameras in the first two months of the year.

There were 23 tickets issued to OC Transpo for speeding violations through the automated speed enforcement camera program during the same period in 2024.

Ottawa currently has 60 automated speed enforcement cameras and 85 red light cameras in operation across the city.
