Police recover two stolen vehicles on Hwy. 401 in eastern Ontario

Ontario Provincial Police recovered two stolen vehicles during a traffic stop on Highway 401 near Prescott last week.

Police say an officer with the Ministry of Transportation stopped a transport truck on Jan. 17 at around 9 a.m. near the Highway 416 interchange.

OPP officers were called after two vehicles were located inside a sea container that was on the trailer, a news release said.

A Toyota Highlander and Dodge Ram inside the container had been stolen from the Toronto and Peterborough areas.

Police also seized suspected methamphetamine at the scene and the truck driver was arrested.

A 26-year-old from Georgetown, Ont. was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and one count of possession of schedule one substance.

The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Feb. 21.

The investigation continues.
