Police seize drugs, knives in inmate’s cell at Kingston, Ont. correctional facility

An inmate at a correctional facility in Kingston, Ont. is facing charges after officials discovered crystal methamphetamine, marijuana and tobacco in a cell.

Kingston police say investigators launched an investigation earlier this month into allegations an inmate at the Collins Bay Institution was “suspected of orchestrating the introduction of contraband” into the facility using drones.

On April 3, a 30-year-old inmate in custody at Collins Bay Institution was arrested.

“A search of the inmate’s cell resulted in the seizure of 2 Buck knives, 23 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 54 grams of tobacco, 20 grams of cannabis marijuana and a cellular telephone,” police said in a media release on Thursday.

The inmate is facing charges of “act likely to cause mischief endangering life,” possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution and possession of weapons dangerous.

Police say the value of the items seized is $23,000.

The inmate remains in custody at the Collins Bay Institution pending a court appearance, according to police.
