A G2 driver had to hitch a ride in the rain after being stopped for speeding on Highway 417 in Ottawa.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said an officer observed a driver going 161 km/h on the highway on Monday.

“A novice driver travelling at that speed in the pouring rain is a recipe for disaster,” the OPP said on social media.

The driver is facing a charge of stunt driving, which includes a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

If convicted, the driver faces a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points and a one-year driving prohibition.

Ontario Provincial Police and the OPP issued several stunt driving charges to drivers over the Easter long weekend.

On Monday, the OPP said a driver was stopped for stunt driving for a second time since October. An officer observed the driver going 181 km/h, according to police.

On Saturday, Ottawa Police issued two stunt driving charges, including to a 19-year-old G1 driver going 53 km/h over the speed limit on Bank Street at Athans Street.
