A magnitude 2.2 earthquake was felt by residents living just south of Ottawa on Saturday afternoon.
Earthquakes Canada says the small tremor struck at approximately 2:41 p.m. with the epicentre located about 13 kilometres northeast of Kemptville and 38 kilometres southeast of downtown Ottawa.
Reports of light shaking were reported to the Earthquakes Canada website in the area surrounding Kemptville, including Osgoode. Most witnesses reported the shaking to be “weak” or “light.”
“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” Earthquakes Canada said.
Last month, a larger magnitude 3.8 earthquake in the Laurentians area of Quebec was felt in the national capital region, though no damage was reported.
While earthquakes are not uncommon in eastern Ontario, most are rarely felt and typically cause little to no damage.
