Suspect in targeted shooting at Innisville home arrested, charged: OPP

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged the suspect in a targeted shooting that happened at a home in Innisville on April 12.

Police issued a warrant for the arrest of William Scharf, 51, on April 13, noting that he’s wanted for multiple offences, including firearms, assaults and threats.

He was located and arrested on Thursday at a residence in Lanark Highlands Township by Lanark County OPP officers along with the OPP Tactical Response Team (TRU), OPP Canine Units, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad (ROPE) and Lanark County Crime Unit.

“Our officers worked diligently to apprehend an individual who was trying to evade police and posed a threat to public safety. During the arrest, they recovered a loaded handgun, highlighting the seriousness of the charges the individual now faces,” said Lisa Wilhelm, chief superintendent commander of the OPP’s East Region.

He has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, assault casuing bodily harm, two counts of uttering threats, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of mischief under $5,000, two counts of pointing a firearm, discharge a prohibited firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, fail to comply with prohibition order, and driving under suspension.

He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Officers responded to the incident in the Innisville South area off Highway 7 just after 6:30 p.m. on April 12, according to police.

There were no injuries and the suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived, police add.

Police believe it was a targeted incident.
