Flooding has caused service disruptions for passenger trains travelling between Ottawa and Quebec City on Monday.
Via Rail said in a social media post at approximately 2:30 p.m. that flooding on the tracks is blocking traffic in the Drummondville, Que. area.
As a result, Via Rail has cancelled trips between Quebec City and Montreal, impacting trains 24, 26 and 28 between Ottawa and Quebec City and trains 27, 37 and 39 between Quebec City and Ottawa.
Via Train 29 between Quebec City and Montreal has been cancelled.
In an email, Via Rail said passengers on trains 24 and 37 were offered alternative transportation by bus for the segment between Quebec City and Montreal.
Trains 26, 28, 29 and 39 will be cancelled on the Montreal to Quebec City portion with no alternative transportation. Affected passengers will receive a full refund and a 100 per cent travel credit.
“VIA Rail continues to closely monitor the situation and will communicate directly with affected passengers in the event of further service disruptions. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this situation beyond our control,” the company said.
It’s unclear when service might be restored at this time.
About 300 homes in Drummonville were under an evacuation order due to rising water levels in the Saint-François River after torrential rain impacted the region on Sunday.
Due to a flood on the tracks blocking rail traffic in the Drummondville area, the following trains have been cancelled between Quebec and Montreal: 24, 26, 28, 29, 37 and 39 on March 17th.
