William Caton, Liberal Party of Canada

A cattle rancher from the Cypress Hills area, William Caton will make his sixth attempt at federal office in 2025. Canton first ran as the Progressive Conservative candidate for Cypress Hills-Grasslands in 2000. He followed that up with runs for the Liberals in 2004 and 2006.

In 2015, Caton flipped over to the Green Party before returning to the Liberals for the 2019 election. He did not run in the 2021 election.

Maria Rose Lewans, Independent

Lewans will return for her third federal election as an independent. The operator of Lewans Plumbing in Swift Current has a storied political history in the area – running for the Green Party in a provincial by-election in Swift Current in 2018 before running for the party’s leadership in 2020.

Lewans has also ran in Swift Current’s 2016 mayoral race and for city council in 2020 and 2024.

Alex McPhee, New Democratic Party

Alex McPhee is an entrepreneur and professional cartographer who has lived in Val Marie since 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Science in geophysics from the University of Alberta and has mapped much of Canada through his career.

According to the party, he is passionate about keeping public services open in small rural communities.

Jeremy Patzer, Conservative Party of Canada

Jeremy Patzer is looking to return to Parliament Hill for the third time. First elected under the Conservative banner in 2019, Patzer was re-elected in 2021.

Patzer beat out a crowded field of candidates to replace retiring MP David Anderson in 2019. At the time of his nomination, he had been involved with the Conservative Party board of directors in the riding for several years.
