Here are the candidates running in the Yorkton-Melville riding

Valerie Brooks, Green Party of Canada

Born and raised in Hudson Bay, Sask., Valerie Brooks is an educator and holds a master’s degree in education. According to the party, Brooks is committed to working towards implementing electoral reform with proportional representation.

Brooks served a two-year term as the co-chair for the non-profit Fair Vote Canada.

Alec Guggenmos, Libertarian Party of Canada

Alec Guggenmos has lived in the Yorkton-Melville area for the past six years, according to the party. He attended the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and works as a crew chief in the land surveying industry.

If elected, Guggenmos’s says he would focus on fighting inflation, finding solutions to provincial trade issues, ending provincial equalization and working towards election reform.

Luke Guimond, Liberal Party of Canada

Luke Guimond grew up Saskatchewan and attended the University of Regina, where he received a BA in political science and a minor in French. He went on to attend the University of Ottawa where he received a master’s degree in political theory.

Following his education, Guimond worked for MPP Lucille Collard and MP Anthony Housefather among other elected officials in Ontario.

Michaela Krakowetz, New Democratic Party

Michaela Krakowetz hails from Lintlaw, Sask. According to the party, she is a proud advocate for individual choice and freedom, and she hopes to bring passion and energy to fight for the needs of rural Saskatchewan in Ottawa.

Cathay Wagantall, Conservative Party of Canada

Cathay Wagantall has served as the MP for Yorkton Melville since the 2015 federal election – winning re-election twice.

From 2015-2017, Wagantall served as the assistant critic for Veteran’s Affairs.
