Man charged for inmate’s 2021 death at Regina Correctional Centre

WATCH: A Moose Jaw man has been charged after the death of an inmate at the Regina Correctional Centre almost four years ago.

A Moose Jaw man is facing a pair of charges in connection to a death at the Regina Correctional Centre in 2021.

On Feb. 8, 2021, a 38-year-old inmate went into medical distress while in a holding cell in the centre’s admissions area.

Despite life-saving measures from corrections staff and EMS, he was declared deceased at around 3:40 p.m. that day.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section investigated the man’s death in consultation with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, according to an update on Tuesday.

The investigation found that a man provided cocaine to the inmate prior to his death.

On Jan. 6, 2025, a 42-year-old Moose Jaw man was charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of trafficking cocaine.

He made his first appearance in provincial court on Monday, Jan. 20 in Regina.
