Hundreds gathered at the International Trade Centre at Regina’s REAL District to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
The occasion marks the end of Ramadan on the Islamic calendar – ending a month-long fasting for Muslims across the globe.
“Eid al-Fitr” translates to “the festival of breaking the fast.”
Attendees came from across the province. Because of the size of the crowds, two separate services were held to accommodate everyone.
The event was organized by the Islamic Association of Saskatchewan’s (IAOS) Regina branch. President Wasim Sheikh said Eid al-Fitr represents a moment to bring everyone together in unity.
“We want peace in this world,” he told CTV News. “We want everyone to respect each other. We want people to love each other.”
In additional to the services – a marketplace was set up for children to enjoy snacks and henna painting.
“We are blessed to have such a big place where we can all come together and pray,” said Sheza Wasim, who attended the festivities.
“How we can all enjoy with family and have a good time together.”
