Beginning next week, the City of Regina will add several electric buses to its public transportation fleet.

Starting with seven buses, a further 13 will be added to Regina’s transit fleet in 2026.

“Today, we take a bold and exciting step toward a cleaner, greener future for Regina. With the arrival of these new electric buses, we are creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way for residents to get around,” Mayor Chad Bachynski said during the announcement.

“These buses will reduce emissions, lower operational costs, and support our commitment to building a resilient, forward-thinking city. Investing in green technology is investing in Regina’s future — one where clean air, smart infrastructure and sustainability lead the way.”

The first seven electric buses cost $1.37 million per unit, with half the cost shared with the federal government as part of its zero-emission transit fund.

The investment was initially announced in February of 2024.

“Starting next week, you will see the electric buses take to the streets on a variety of routes, helping the growing number of Regina residents get around conveniently, affordably and comfortably,” Director of Transit Nathan Luhning said.

The federal government and city both contributed $26,106,500 toward the 20 buses and the infrastructure for their charging stations — for a total investment of over $52.2 million.
