The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) says it is reviewing its parking policy at the Regina Urgent Care Centre, after a resident claimed they received a parking ticket in error at the facility.
“Parking enforcement will be paused while that review is underway,” a statement from the SHA read.
Any patients who feel that they received a ticket in error are encouraged to contact SHA parking services at (306) 766-3799.
The decision comes after one family who spoke to CTV News was taken by surprise by a $50 ticket following a visit to the centre.
Kim Anderson Cobb was in a rush to get one of her family members to the Urgent Care Centre after they became violently ill.
Unlike the city’s two hospitals, parking at the centre is meant to be free. Anderson Cobb said she was asked to provide her license plate number and an estimate of how long they planned to stay.
Not knowing how long their visit was going to last, Anderson Cobb selected five hours on the iPad she was provided.
Regardless, the family was met with a ticket upon their return to their vehicle. The SHA did note, in an email to the family, that there is an option on the data pad to enter a possible stay of 24 hours.
“As parking is free at that facility, we would encourage you to utilize this option,” the email read.
The ticket was eventually written off by SHA, and the family did note that they received excellent care during their visit.
