The University of Regina Cougars took home gold in both the Men’s and Women’s Canada West conference championships Sunday.

Led by skip Chloe Johnston, the title is the second for the Regina women in four years, after winning their first ever conference banner in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Cougar men, skipped by Josh Bryden, got a bit of redemption after finishing as league runners-up a season ago for their first conference title since the 1969-70 season.

“This is just great,” men’s coach Tom Hamon said in a media release. “The women’s team won a title just a couple years ago, but we’ve never won a double before.”

While it is the first time the University of Regina has won both championships, it’s the second straight year a single school has taken home gold on both the men’s and women’s side.

The University of Alberta accomplished the feat in 2024.

“We’re thrilled,” Hamon added. “The competition has come a long way and it’s great to see so many schools here.”

Team Bryden, who is coming off a fourth-place finish at the FISU World University Games, now look to defend their U Sports national championship.

Their win also toppled a U of A run of five-straight conference championships since 2019.

The U of R women last won a national championship in 2010.

The 2025 U Sports national championship tournament runs Feb. 24 – 28 in Lethbridge, Alta.
