Regina hosts multiple educational events

Regina students attend See Your Future - Education and Career Fair.

The Queen City played host to more than one event tailored to the city’s high school students on Tuesday.

The Queensbury Convention Centre saw hundreds of Grade 11 and Grade 12 students pass through for the 28^th annual See Your Future Education and Career Fair.

It features more than 100 exhibitors every year, as universities, colleges and employers from across Canada set up booths where students can learn about future educational and job opportunities.

Fair director Tracey Kowalchuk said it’s a good opportunity for the students to meet with different organizations face-to-face.

“I would say that this is a good opportunity for businesses because this is a pipeline. Our growth market here in Saskatchewan is we need labour. And for businesses to invest in coming here and saying to the students this is what your job could look like four years from now when you graduate from whatever program you’re in.”

At Campus Regina Public, more than 60 high school students were taken through a half-day interactive workshop.

It was designed to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills and provide valuable insights into strategy, business planning, and marketing.

There were several mentors on hand, including Founder and CEO of Bravo Tango Advertising Agency Ben Tingley, for the students to pitch their business plans to, and hear advice from.

“One is follow your passion. If you enjoy your craft, or whatever your service or product is that you’re building, chase it. And then the other one was a little more strategic, like let’s identify your target demographic, your main selling features and what makes you different from the competition. If you don’t know the answer to that, let’s figure it out,” Tingley said.

“So we’re really pushing them to take it to that next level,” he added.
