Regina Pat Canadians win Western Regional final to advance to Telus Cup

WATCH: After sweeping through western regionals the Regina Pat Canadians are off to the Telus Cup.

The Regina Pat Canadians are off to the Telus Cup after a 7-1 win over the Winnipeg Wild in the West Regional tournament final on Sunday.

The Canadian male U18 AAA hockey national championship begins April 21 in Chilliwack, B.C., where the Pat Canadians take on the host Fraser Valley Thunderbirds to open the six team tournament.

On Sunday, Pat Canadians forward Maddox Schultz scored 46 seconds in on his way to a hat trick that helped the Pat Canadians to a 5-1 lead after two periods. Ethan Dundas, Reid Bechard, Logan Mehl and Cruz Klapak also scored in the win.

Schultz, who is expected to be the top pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft finished the tournament with 10 points in four games (6G, 4A) and was named tournament MVP.

This will be the tenth time in program history the Pat Canadians have advanced to the national championship tournament.

The six teams in the event will be from the Pacific, Central, Quebec, Atlantic and West regions.

Semi-finals will see the top four teams from a round-robin playoff with the winners advancing to the national championship final on April 27.

The Pat Canadians finished the SMAAAHL regular season with a 35-7-2 record and defeated Moose Jaw in the league final to advance to the Western Regional tournament. They only lost once in throughout the league playoffs and swept the Western Regional tournament with four straight wins.

The Pat Canadians last appeared in the Telus Cup in 2017 and last won a national title in 1999.
