What began as a death investigation Tuesday night has become Regina’s first homicide of 2025.
Denis Hotomanie, 39, has been charged with first-degree murder following an investigation into a death in the city’s core.
The Regina Police Service shared an update Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the 1500 block of 12th Avenue for a report of an injured man. When units arrived, they discovered the body of a 46-year-old man.
The area was secured by police, and members of the service’s major crimes, forensic identification units – in addition to the Saskatchewan Coroners Service – arrived at the scene.
An investigation ultimately led to the arrest of Hotomanie.
The accused is set to make his first appearance in provincial court on Feb. 20.
The incident led to a brief closure of Carmichael Outreach, that was located near the scene.
“We are deeply saddened by the recent incident that has impacted our community. This heartbreaking event has left us all in shock and mourning, and our hearts go out to everyone affected, especially the grieving family,” the organization said in a statement.
Wendy Miller, executive director of the Heritage Community Association, also spoke on the effect the incident has had on the neighbourhood.
“This tragedy happened in our community. It could happen in any community. Crime is definitely a problem in our city, so with that, we’re just looking to support one another and keep each other safe as best as we can,” Miller told CTV News.
“Definitely, our thoughts and prayers are with friends and family of those of the deceased.”
