Regina police officer charged, accused of accessing databases to pursue personal relationships

WATCH: A Regina police officer has been charged with breach of trust and unauthorized use of a computer following a lengthy investigation.

A longtime Regina police officer is facing multiple charges for allegedly accessing internal police databases and using the information to pursue personal relationships.

According to a Regina Police Service (RPS) news release, following an extensive investigation Sgt. Robert Eric Semenchuck, who has 22 years of service, is charged with breach of trust and unauthorized use of a computer.

The police service said it was made aware of the allegations in early 2023 after a member of the public came forward with information.

According to Regina police, Semenchuck was suspended immediately and was then blocked from accessing all police databases.

Regina’s Chief of Police Farooq Sheikh will speak to the media regarding the allegations on Thursday morning at 9:30.

According to RPS, Semenchuck is scheduled to make his first court appearance on the charges on April 22.

Regina police’s Professional Standards Section is asking anyone with more information on the matter to contact them.

Semenchuck was charged on March 11, Regina police said.
