The Saskatchewan government has announced an additional $29.5 million in funding that will be invested in relocatable classrooms to support growing student enrolment, for a total of $58 million in mid-year funding.

The additional funding is part of a recently announced $1 billion in additional spending through executive-orders-in council to “address cost pressures and respond to emerging issues” across a broad range of government sectors.

The funding will provide 76 new portable classrooms to alleviate space pressures, with the majority of them to be allocated to Regina and Saskatoon, according to a release from the province.

The communities of Clavet, Corman Park, Humboldt, Lloydminster, Martensville, Pilot Butte, Warman, and Weyburn will also receive portable classrooms.

“With Saskatchewan’s growing population, we recognize the need for additional classroom space to support students and educators,” Education Minister Everett Hindley said in the release.

“This additional investment will ensure schools that anticipate capacity challenges in 2025-26 have the necessary infrastructure to accommodate students.”
