Services to be shut off at Regina’s Glen Elm Mobile Community

WATCH: Since January, several residents from the Glen Elm Mobile Community have come together to avoid getting evicted. Mick Favel has more.

A section of the Glen Elm Mobile Home Community has reached a critical deadline which will see some of its services disconnected for residents.

In January, the section received a letter from the property’s owners. It explained the park had infrastructure issues which could not be solved and indicated that by April 30, residents needed to make arrangements to be out of their homes.

The letter concluded services would be cut off May 1.

Randall Edge is the President of the Glen Elm Retirement Community Residents Association and said three of the affected 14 residents have made arrangements with the land owners. The other homes are likely abandoned and will be demolished.

“All you have to do is go through our community to see all the empty spots. The process of transition is already underway,” Edge said.

Since the notice in January, a number of residents banded together, creating an association hoping to find a solution.

They met with the City of Regina and provincial government officials to explore options.

Their current plan is to buy the land from the owners. So far, they have put in two offers and expect to hear back by Friday, May 2.

“We are now receiving feedback. I would say we’re in negotiations,” said Edge.

Several residents have been stressed about the situation with the possibility of becoming homeless on their minds.

Edge said some residents are considering living in their cars or filing for bankruptcy.

“We’re under stress in this whole situation,” he said.

CTV News reached out to Glen Elm Properties, but did not hear back before deadline.
