The Crown has wrapped up its testimony in the second day of trial of a former educational assistant who is facing sexual exploitation charges involving a student.
Stacey Duke has been charged with sexual exploitation of a young person, making sexually explicit material available to a child, and luring a child.
The alleged offence happened while Duke was working at Vibank Regional School – located east of Regina in the Rural Municipality of Francis – in fall 2022.
On Wednesday, the court heard from the three out of the five witnesses of the Crown – all former students from Vibank, who cannot be identified due to a publication ban imposed by the court.
In addition to the complainant, one of the witnesses stated they allegedly received a video of Duke touching herself in the private area through Facebook messenger.
The complainant, who was 17-years-old at the time of the alleged offence, testified the morning of March 4.
In their testimony, they told the court that Duke allegedly added them on the social media platform Snapchat and would send messages about “sexual fantasies” along with naked photos and videos of herself.
Although the complainant stated no photos or videos were saved, they did have a message from Duke asking to “meet in the washroom” during school hours that was filed as evidence in the court.
At the beginning of the trial, the jury also heard from the RCMP officer who conducted the initial investigation.
After cross examination of the last Crown witness, the defence requested to adjourn until Thursday morning to potentially call a witness of their own.
The trial will resume March 6 at Court of King’s Bench in Regina.
