A Saskatchewan man charged with the attempted murder of a child under the age of six made his first court appearance Tuesday morning, at Yorkton Provincial Court.
Frederick Stewart, 41, from Saltcoats, Sask. was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault by choking and failing to comply with a probation order.
The case was adjourned on Tuesday after Stewart’s legal team stated they needed more time to gather information from their client.
On Feb. 1, the Saskatchewan RCMP stated they responded to a report of a serious assault at a residence on Waterloo Road in Yorkton.
Following the investigation, RCMP determined an adult male assaulted a child who was later transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
RCMP added that due to privacy considerations, they are unable to provide an update on the child’s condition.
Steward remains in custody and will appear back at Yorkton Provincial Court on Feb. 25.,
