Dozens of people gathered in Saskatoon on Saturday for a march to commemorate International Women’s Day.
This is one of the first events in Saskatoon that is actually held on March 8th, according to organizers.
Several community organizations and individuals joined together for a march through downtown, ending at the Vimy Memorial.
International Women’s Day has declared its 2025 theme to be #AccelerateAction, which organizers think is appropriate for the current political temperature of our society.
“No matter where you are or where you stand on this topic, as long as we’re all together, that makes the difference. That’s what’s important. And that’s where we can make the most changes. If we all stand together,” march organizer Skylar Forsberg told CTV News.

She says every city, town, rural area, and reservation celebrates International Women’s Day differently, usually pertaining to the context of their area and events occurring. With #AccelerateAction, it gives an energy of urgency to take initiative in those events and contexts.
“This first event has sparked me to want to create more women’s marches, and I have a feeling that this might be a future thing that we do all the time on March 8th,” Forsberg said.
Safety for women, girls, and 2Spirit individuals is essential to equality, according to Forsberg.
Coming together as a community in an act of solidarity is one way to cut through the societal tone of patriarchy, she said.
