The City of Martensville celebrated the grand opening of its new recreation centre on Tuesday.
Local leaders, government officials, and youth gathered at the Martensville Recreation Centre as Mayor Kent Muench cut the ribbon.
“It is an incredible facility, and it is very, very impactful,” Muench said at the grand opening.

The Martensville Recreation Centre first opened its doors in October, when the city celebrated the completion of its indoor arena.
Now, construction on the rest of the facility is complete. Along with the arena, the new facility is home to a field house, rock climbing wall, and batting and pitching cages.
The Martensville Community Recreation Project started in 2014 with an initial goal of adding another ice rink to the community, but the project later expanded to building a multipurpose facility.
According to the City of Martensville, the roughly $44.5 million project was funded through a $17.8 million commitment from the federal government and a $14.8 million commitment from the provincial government, while the city was responsible for the remaining roughly $11.8 million.
Muench said the community was also key in getting the facility built.
“We are incredibly proud of what our community has accomplished,” he remarked.
As part of the grand opening, local youth took a field trip to the Martensville Recreation Centre, enjoying the amenities for the first time.
