Five people have been arrested in Prince Albert in connection with an alleged drive-by shooting on Saturday.
In a news release on Monday, Prince Albert police say what began as a weapons complaint in the city’s west flat Saturday evening escalated into a highway pursuit that ended with help from the Saskatchewan RCMP.
Around 7 p.m. on April 19, officers were called to the 800 block of 12th Street West after four people reportedly got out of a vehicle outside of a house, and one person fired a gun at the house before they fled, heading south.
While patrol officers were at the scene, other officers found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Police say it took off at a high rate of speed — heading north of Prince Albert on Highway 2 — and officers called the Prince Albert RCMP for support.
Police say the vehicle turned back towards the city. Officers reported one of the suspects rolled the window down slightly and began shooting at police.
The pursuit came to an end when the suspects turned onto Highway 55 East and officers were able to box the vehicle in around Little Red River Park, police said.
Five occupants were arrested — 32-year-old man, two 30-year-old men, a 21-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman face a range of charges related to firearms violations, resisting arrest, evading police and dangerous driving. The 32-year-old man also faces trafficking charges.
In the vehicle, police found a .22-caliber sawed-off rifle, knives, a machete, an air pistol, bear spray and drugs.
No officers were injured, police said.
