The province is expected to announce nearly $1 billion in additional funding on Monday to “address cost pressures and respond to emerging issues” across a broad range of government sectors.
In a statement Monday morning, a government spokesperson said the province approved special warrants worth $923.1 million through orders in council — a means of providing ministries with additional funding when the legislature is not in session.
The province says the special warrants will provide essential funds to meet the needs of the health system, crop insurance payments, public safety agency, highways, education, correctional services, and “increased costs due to the ratification of various collective bargaining agreements.”
This is a developing story. More details will emerge when the orders in council are published later in the day.
