WATCH: Saskatchewan Polytechnic is laying off 27 people as a lack of international students is impacting revenues.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has laid off 27 employees due to a decline in international enrollment and uncertainty created by the U.S./Canada trade war.

“Like post-secondary institutions across Canada, Sask. Polytech is facing a decrease in international student enrolment and reduction in revenues, which directly impacts programming and budgets,” a statement from the organization read.

“In addition to this reduction, Sask. Polytech is also bracing for economic uncertainty created by tariffs.”

Sask. Polytech says as part of its annual operational review, 27 full-time and part-time employees received layoff notices, including 13 faculty, 10 professional services employees and four out-of-scope employees.

According to Sask. Polytech, these changes represent one per cent of the institution’s workforce.

The specific campuses and departments impacted by the cuts were not disclosed.
